A ready-made solution of picric acid and fuchsin for staining connective tissue according to the Van Gieson method. It is often used in conjunction with Weigert's iron hematoxylin for contrast staining of nuclei (a mixture of Weigert's hematoxylin A and Weigert's hematoxylin B).
